Trainers, get ready for an action-packed month! Niantic has announced not one, but two separate Mega Raid Days for September 2025, bringing the debut of two highly anticipated Mega Evolutions to the world of Pokémon GO. This move has been met with widespread excitement from the community, as it provides a fantastic opportunity for players to acquire new powerful Pokémon and crucial Mega Energy. With each event bringing a unique set of challenges and rewards, trainers will need to be prepared and strategic to make the most of this month’s raids. The events are part of the larger “Tales of Transformation” season, which promises new and evolving gameplay experiences throughout the fall.
Mega Sharpedo Charges In: The First September Raid Day
The first of the two events, the Mega Sharpedo Raid Day, took place on Sunday, September 7, 2025. This event marked the official debut of Mega Sharpedo in Pokémon GO, a swift and powerful Water/Dark-type Pokémon. The event ran for three hours, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time, with Mega Sharpedo appearing as the exclusive Mega Raid boss at most Gyms. Trainers who participated had an increased chance of encountering a Shiny Sharpedo from the raids, making it a prime opportunity for collectors and competitive players alike.
Event Bonuses and Raid Strategy
- Increased Raid Passes: During the event, trainers received up to five additional free Raid Passes by spinning Gym Photo Discs.
 - Remote Raid Pass Limit: The limit for Remote Raid Passes was temporarily increased to 20, allowing players to coordinate with friends globally.
 - Shiny Odds Boost: The chance of encountering a Shiny Sharpedo was significantly boosted during the event, a key incentive for trainers to participate.

To take on Mega Sharpedo, trainers needed to assemble teams of Bug, Fairy, Electric, Fighting, and Grass-type Pokémon. Recommended counters included popular choices like Mega Lucario, Mega Sceptile, and Kartana. The battles were intense, but a coordinated group of trainers could defeat the boss and earn the much-needed Mega Energy to evolve their own Sharpedo.
Mega Camerupt Erupts: The Second September Raid Day
The surprises don’t stop there. Niantic has also officially announced a second Mega Raid Day, this one featuring the debut of Mega Camerupt. This event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 28, 2025, also from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. Like the first event, Mega Camerupt will be the exclusive Mega Raid boss, and trainers will have an increased chance of encountering a Shiny Camerupt after a successful raid.
Mega Camerupt’s Arrival and Battle Guide
Mega Camerupt’s arrival is particularly exciting for trainers looking to bolster their Fire and Ground-type rosters. With its unique dual typing, it presents a different challenge compared to Mega Sharpedo. As a Fire/Ground-type, Mega Camerupt is vulnerable to attacks from:
- Water-type Pokémon (4x damage)
 - Ground-type Pokémon (2x damage)
 - Rock-type Pokémon (2x damage)

This four-times weakness to Water-type attacks makes it a great opportunity to use powerful Water-type attackers like Kyogre, Mega Blastoise, and Kingler. Trainers are advised to prepare their best teams in advance to maximize their chances of victory and securing the much-coveted Mega Energy.
The Evolving Mega Evolution Meta
These back-to-back Mega Raid Days highlight Niantic’s commitment to keeping the Mega Evolution feature fresh and engaging. The introduction of new Mega Evolutions on a dedicated Raid Day has become a staple of the Pokémon GO calendar. It provides a focused opportunity for players to acquire new forms and Mega Energy, which is essential for the game’s competitive and collection aspects. The shift to a more frequent debut schedule ensures that trainers always have something new to look forward to.
Furthermore, these new Mega Evolutions will undoubtedly shake up the raid meta. Mega Sharpedo, with its powerful Dark and Water-type attacks, is a fantastic addition for raids against Psychic and Fire-type raid bosses. Mega Camerupt, with its raw power and Ground-type utility, will be a valuable asset against Electric, Poison, and Rock-type opponents. The strategic depth of Pokémon GO continues to grow, with each new Mega Evolution providing new opportunities for trainers to optimize their teams and dominate in raids and player-versus-player battles.
As the month draws to a close, trainers should prepare their teams, stock up on raid passes, and get ready for the final Mega Raid Day of September. The debut of Mega Camerupt is not to be missed, offering a unique challenge and a valuable addition to any trainer’s collection. Good luck, and happy raiding!
